7 Things To Do In Acapulco

acapulco has three tourist areas: Las Playas in the north, where the city is located, the Golden Zone high up on the arc of the bay, and the downtown area. and the new Punta Diamante, emerging as a luxury escape. One thing worth noting about Acapulco is that it has lost its dominance since the 1990s. It’s all because of a cartel war, and while the violence rarely affects tourists, it’s a significant deterrent.

Plan a trip to this fantastic city of Acapulco with Aeromexico Airlines booking and enjoy your vacation with your family.

Fort San Diego

Acapulco’s most important landmark is its Star Fort, built in 1617 to protect the city from pirate attacks. It was to protect the Manila Galleons, a fleet that sailed the Pacific trade route between Acapulco in the Philippines and Spanish-controlled Manila and was the strongest fort on Mexico’s Pacific coast at the time. After an earthquake in the 1770s, it was rebuilt in a regular pentagonal shape.

Acapulco Historical Museum

Since 1986, a museum has been housed inside the fort, detailing the history of Acapulco and explaining the fort’s role in key events over the past 400 years. Particularly fascinating are the details about the Manila galleons, piracy in the Pacific, and trade with Japan and China. There is a model of ships that crossed the Pacific as well as some authentic imported artifacts such as porcelain vases.

Capella De La Paz

The monument, 400 meters above the eastern entrance to the bay, can be visited. The chapel is located on “El Guitarrón”, one of the highest points in the city, with a magnificent view of the beach, the cityscape, and the Sierra Madre del Sur. The chapel was built in the late 1970s in memory of the two sons of developer Carlos Truitt who died in a plane crash in 1967. Tritt’s tomb in the chapel, along with his wife and sons George and Carlos Jr.

Moral Diego Rivera

Diego Rivera’s work may be on the exterior walls of the home of Dolores Olmedo, the famous art patron with whom he had a long-term relationship. The mural, a three-dimensional mosaic rich with pre-Hispanic symbols, was one of Rivera’s last works before his death in 1957. Tlaloc, the Aztec god of rain, lightning, and thunder, and a Xoloitzcuintle, a hairy dog can. The two winged serpents of Quetzalcóatl facing each other on either side of the gate are dominant images.

Punta Diamante

This new and developing Acapulco neighborhood is on a sand bar facing the Laguna de Tres Palos southeast of the main bay. Punta Diamante, while lacking the charm and energy of old Acapulco, makes up for it with space and convenience. The airport is only minutes away, and a new tunnel around the bay to the traditional prime tourist zone of Dorada has reduced travel times since 2017.

Twelve Vijas

Barra Vieja is a few kilometers along the sandbar from Punta Diamante. Barra Vieja, with its remote location and large beach, is the perfect place to get away from the crowds in Acapulco. The beach, like Punta Diamante, has a gentle gradient, so there is a lot of shallow water even though the waves are strong. During peak season, you can choose from dozens of palapas (palm huts) serving the catch of the day, such as red snapper. Tres Vadas Golf Courses is a championship 18-hole course with stunning ocean views.

Playa De La Cuesta

Acapulco begins to thin out northwest of downtown, and after 10 kilometers of winding coastal roads, you’ll reach Pie de la Cuesta. The village is located at the eastern point of another sand bar that separates the Pacific Ocean from the vast Laguna de Coyuca. It is quiet, comfortable, and traffic free. For relaxation, look no further than the beach, which stretches for miles and is very relaxing. There are restaurants behind the palapas, or you can order a cocktail like Coco Loco and watch the fast surf. The sea is too rough for swimming, but it’s beautiful at sunset, and kids can ride horseback along the beach during the day.
